INSTALLATION ART is an artistic genre of three-dimensional works that are often site-specific and designed to transform the perception of a space or place. Generally, the term is applied to interior spaces, whereas exterior interventions are often called public art, land art or earth works; however, the boundaries between these terms overlap.
Things to consider:
- Is this different than a "school prank" or "Vandalism?" if so how and why?
- The installations will be collaborative, somewhat anonymous, and temporary So what is the value?
- This project is for the public, therefore it will be seen and interacted with by many...we would like the audience to understand and respect our work so each group will write a short summary of the project to accompany their piece.
- Documentation plays an important role in both the process and the finished product. You are highly encouraged/required to share on social media :)
- Set a purpose or intention for the project: beauty, humor, encouragement, pride/celebration, to make a statement...
- Choose an appropriate location for the project, consider your audience = Your peers and teachers during finals week and the beginning of spring semester.
- Take measurements, experiment with different techniques, get approval (in this case), start making...finish making, install on the sly, document the process & product, and share!
